Additional News from NYSTPBA President Tom Mungeer

NYSTPBA Newsletter Additional News from NYSTPBA President Tom Mungeer Weekly COVID Testing I have been notified by the director of the Office of Employee Relations that the state is suspending weekly testing for unvaccinated state employees starting Tuesday. Employees will be officially notified on Monday. I have had several conversations regarding the elimination of this and I am happy that the powers-that-be have finally agreed. New Gun Legislation I will go into a more in-depth and detailed analysis of the recently completed 2022 Legislative Session in next Friday’s newsletter. As I had stated before, many of our top priority issues were pushed aside in the waning days of the session due to our elected officials choosing to focus 99% of their attention on the topics of gun restrictions and abortion. We will attack our top priorities of the DROP, Tier 6 fixes and prior CO/Deputy service time buyback with a renewed vigor during the ensuing months and when the next legislative session commences. One point of interest regarding the passage of the new law that eliminates “the grandfathering of large-capacity ammunition feeding devices lawfully possessed prior to the enactment of the SAFE Act in 2013 or manufactured prior to 1994.” Be advised that the new law retains the exemptions for both active and retired law enforcement.
