Death Notification: Norman "Bugs" Johnson Troop K Communications Specialist

Norman Charles Johnson, 76, an area resident since 1993 and formerly of Yonkers, died on October 17, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Harlem on March 28, 1945, he was the son of Norman Albin and Esther Frances (McGill) Johnson. He proudly served our country in the US Navy during the Vietnam era. Norman, who was lovingly referred to as “Bugs”, was employed as a communications specialist with the New York State Police at Troop K until his retirement in 2003.

Norman was a parishioner of St. Columba Church. He was an avid chess player, competing in local tournaments in the 1970s. In the 1980s, he played ice hockey with the Arlington Rockets at the Mid Hudson Civic Center. He also enjoyed playing softball and baseball with the Troopers, and classic rock music. As he got older, he stayed active as a member of All Sport, and he also loved his cats.

On June 18, 1973 in Yonkers, Norman married Linda Mikrut who survives at home. He is also survived by his son, Bill. Norm was a devoted husband and father, and was always there for his family. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Norma and Jeffrey Young, and Stan and Nancy Mikrut; and his nieces and nephews, Diana Willetts Johnson, Ken Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Jeffrey Young, Allison Young, Jason Mikrut and Christopher Mikrut. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Johnson.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
