Final Patrol: Investigator Norman J. Birner (Retired)

It is with deep regret that Major Eugene J. Staniszewski, Troop “A” Commander, announces the death of retired Investigator Norman J. Birner, age 85, who passed away on November 9, 2022. Investigator Birner joined the New York State Police on January 2, 1962 and retired on June 24, 1984. He was last stationed in Troop “A” – Major Crimes. Investigator Birner also served as the first Chief of the NFTA Police.

Of Williamsville, NY entered into rest November 9, 2022; Beloved husband of the late Barbara (nee Farrell); devoted father of Eric (Laurie) Birner, Aimee (Todd) Van Brocklyn, Jeffrey Birner and Kristen (Mitch Kucia) Birner; cherished grandfather of Amanda, Eric Jr.(Rachel Fornalik), Alexandra, Andrew and the late Alissa; loving great grandfather of Julius and Jace; dear brother of Robert (Mary Ellen) Birner and the late John (late Ree) Birner; fond cousin of Simon “Skip” Ulmer; also survived by many family and friends. Relatives and friends may visit LOMBARDO FUNERAL HOME (Northtowns Chapel) 885 Niagara Falls Blvd., near Eggert, Amherst, NY on Monday from 3 – 7PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph’s University Church, 3269 Main St., Buffalo, NY on Tuesday at 10 AM. Please assemble at church.
