Final Patrol: Sergeant Station Commander Denis J. Murphy III (Retired)


Major Kathryne M. Rohde regrets to announce the passing of retired Sergeant Station Commander Denis J. Murphy III, age 74. Sergeant/SC Murphy passed away on 02/07/2023. Sergeant/SC Murphy entered Division service on 09/06/1973 serving 32 years, retiring in 2005. He was last stationed in Troop K, SP Dover Plains.

Services will be held on February 27th, 2023 at 10 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 4600 Belle Terre Pkwy, Palm Coast, Florida 32164.

Interment and Military honors will follow the Mass at the church columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Denis' name to Advent Health Hospice, 150 Memorial Medical Parkway, Palm Coast Fl. 32164

Denis Joseph Murphy III, age 74 of Palm Coast, FL, passed away on Tuesday February 7, 2023 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 4600 Belle Terre Pkwy., Palm Coast, FL 32164 on Monday February 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends before the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the church Memorial Room. Interment & military honors will follow the Mass in the church columbarium. Denis was born on December 14, 1948 in Jamaica, Queens, New York to the late Denis J. Murphy, Jr. & Gloria A. (nee Maier) Murphy. After high school, Denis joined the U.S. Army. He served in the Infantry during the Vietnam Conflict and attained the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged. He later received his bachelor’s degree and then went on to serve as a State Trooper for over 32 years in the New York State Police before his retirement. Denis moved to Palm Coast in October of 2007 from Dutchess County, New York. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, VFW Post 8696, the Sandlot Bowling League, Planet Fitness and the Corvette Club of Flagler County. Denis was preceded in death by his parents & a niece. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 20 years, Kathleen C. Dorn; son, Denis Murphy; daughter, Mary Murphy Franz (husband, John) & their children Samantha, Thomas, Grace Ann & Natalie; daughter, Erin Elizabeth Murphy; brother, Tim Murphy (wife, Elaine); sisters, Eileen Hilinski (husband, Greg) & Colleen Wittenberg (husband, Niles) and by numerous nieces, nephews & extended family & friends.
