Final Patrol: Trooper Richard J. Rogers (Retired)


Richard J. Rogers of Glenwood, NY passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Bertrand-Chaffee Hospital in Springville at the age of 83.


He was born March 6, 1938 in Sardinia, NY a son of the late Miles and Catherine (Schunke) Rogers. He was a New York State Trooper, a member of the St. Aloysius Church in Springville and served in the United States Marines. He enjoyed being a bee keeper, making maple syrup, hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his friends and family.


His wife, JoAnn E. (Lang) Rogers whom he married on September 21, 1963 at the St. Aloysius Church in Springville, passed away on December 31, 2020.


He is survived by his children: Barbara (Joseph) Dempsey of Glenwood, Brenda (Jack McKnight) Rogers of Arkansas, Christine (Terry) Roseman of Texas, Carol (Dennis Maria) Milligan of Sardinia and Richard M. (Nella) Rogers of Florida; his grandchildren: Jennifer Dempsey, Erin Dempsey, Madison Milligan, Andrew Maria, Nicholas Maria, Chelsea Roseman, Shawna Roseman, Ryan Roseman, Kaitlin (Anthony) Slaughter, Mallory Rogers, Braiden Rogers and Loren (Ryan) Genson; his great-grandchildren: Anthony Maria, Isla Slaughter, Amelia Genson and Lala Roseman; also survived by several nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law.


In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by his sisters: Elizabeth "Susie" Jackson and Shirley Hunt.


Friends may call on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 4-8pm at the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, 271 E. Main St., Springville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 10am at the St. Aloysius Church, 190 Franklin St., Springville with Rev. Daniel Fawls officiating. Interment will be held in the St. Aloysius Cemetery in Springville.
