- Inquiry Regarding Parkinson’s Disease Among NYSP Members
The Association of Former New York State Troopers has established a new Health Inquiry Committee to gather information from members and families regarding serious health conditions that may have affected current, retired, or deceased members. The purpose of this Committee is to collect information, identify possible patterns, and help determine whether further review, outreach, education, or advocacy may be warranted. At this time, one area of particular concern involves reports from members and families regarding Parkinson’s disease and Parkinson’s-like neurological symptoms, including questions about possible occupational or environmental exposures during service. This effort is intended to be informational and supportive. It is not a medical or legal determination, nor is it intended to provide medical or legal advice. Rather, it is an effort to better understand whether shared experiences among our members suggest issues that deserve closer attention. To support this effort, the Committee has created both an online survey form and a printable PDF form. These forms are intended to help gather general information in a respectful and organized manner from members, spouses, family members, or others with relevant knowledge. The results of this inquiry will help the Committee determine whether any trends or patterns exist. If warranted, those findings may support further inquiry and the development of additional outreach, advocacy, or other supportive efforts. We strongly encourage participation from anyone with relevant information to share. Even if you are unsure whether your information is important, it may still be helpful when considered together with other responses. Information provided will be handled with discretion and used for awareness, education, and potential advocacy purposes. We also ask that this information be shared beyond AFNYST membership. Please feel free to forward it to non-AFNYST members, active New York State Police members, and the families of deceased members who may have been affected. Broader participation may help provide a clearer understanding of whether meaningful trends or patterns exist. In addition, we welcome volunteers who may be interested in serving on the Health Inquiry Committee. Anyone willing to assist with this effort is encouraged to make contact. Whenever possible, we ask that responses be submitted through the online form, as this is the preferred method for collecting and organizing information. A PDF version is also available for those who prefer to complete and return the form manually. If you have relevant information to share, would like to volunteer, or have questions, please contact: Thomas W. Winterstein: TWW.parkinsonsinfo@gmail.com You may also participate using one of the links below: Complete the Online Form Download the Printable PDF Form Thank you for taking the time to assist with this important effort.
- Final Patrol: Trooper William J. Hubert (Ret.)
William “Bill” Hubert Born on July 23, 1943 in Buffalo New York Passed on May 17, 2026 in Rockledge, Florida It is with deep regret that Major Amie P. Feroleto, Troop A Commander, announces the passing of retired Trooper William J. Hubert, on May 17, 2026, at the age of 82. Trooper Hubert entered Division service on October 31, 1966, serving 23 years, retiring in 1989. Trooper Hubert was last assigned in Troop A, SP Clarence. Trooper Hubert is survived by his wife Connie and son Daniel Hubert. William “Bill” Hubert passed away surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, service, generosity, laughter, and unwavering love. Bill lived a life defined by dedication — to his family, his community, and the people he served. He proudly served as a State Trooper before later becoming a respected State Farm insurance agent, where he continued helping others with the same integrity and steady presence that characterized every chapter of his life. His commitment to service extended far beyond his career. Bill also served as a volunteer firefighter and was an active member of the Lions Club, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever he was needed. Above all else, Bill was devoted to his family. He shared 52 loving years of marriage with his beloved wife, Connie, building a life grounded in loyalty, partnership, and enduring love. Together they created a home filled with warmth, support, and cherished memories. As a father, Bill created a childhood full of adventure, encouragement, and unforgettable moments for his son, Dan. Whether it was playing basketball in the driveway, racing go-karts, heading out for paintball adventures, or surprising him with new paintball guns every few months, Bill found joy in creating memories that would last a lifetime. One of Dan’s earliest memories was his father encouraging him down a playground slide that seemed far too big at the time — a small moment that perfectly reflected the way Bill guided him through life with reassurance, strength, and confidence. Bill was endlessly proud of Dan and the man he became. He supported him through every stage of life, from running circles around him during walks through Chestnut Ridge Park as a child, to helping him move into Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. In recognition of Dan’s ROTC scholarship accomplishment, Bill gifted him a Mustang — a gesture that symbolized both pride and belief in his future. In recent years, one of Bill’s favorite questions to ask was when Dan would finally make Lieutenant Colonel, a reflection of how deeply invested he remained in his son’s life and accomplishments. Retirement brought Bill many of the simple joys he loved most: afternoons playing basketball in the swimming pool in Fort Myers, relaxing boat rides, and spending precious time with family. He cherished those moments deeply. Bill will be remembered for his generous spirit, playful heart, steadfast support, and the deep love he gave so freely to the people around him. His presence made others feel safe, encouraged, and cared for. Though he will be profoundly missed, the memories he created and the love he shared will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie; his son, Dan; his daughter-in-law, Sarah; and the many family members and friends whose lives were made better by knowing him.The family asks that Bill be remembered not only with sadness, but with gratitude for a life well lived and a man deeply loved.
