  • Final Patrol: Trooper Robert McAlister (Ret.)

Robert McAlister Obituary Obituary published on Legacy.com by J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home on May 22, 2026. Robert (Bob) McAlister, 86, of Hillcrest, NY, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Lucille McAlister; his beloved wife of 66 years, Maureen; his in-laws, Michael and Helen Barvinchak; and his younger brother, James, who made the ultimate sacrifice serving his country in Vietnam. He is survived by his three sons, Kirk, Eric and Scott; his grandchildren, Melissa, Megan, Lyndsie, Matthew and Elizabeth; and his great-grandchildren, Sylas, Sterling and Vera. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Sierzant, and many cherished nieces and nephews. Bob served with pride as a New York State Police officer for 22 years - a career defined by dedication and service, distinguished by numerous awards for exceptional acts of bravery. Among his proudest moments on the job was the chance to work security at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics, where he was present for one of the greatest upsets in sports history: the U.S. hockey team's unforgettable victory over the Soviet Union - the Miracle on Ice. He enjoyed spending time with his sons and attending their sporting events. In his earlier years, he found his greatest peace outdoors: fishing in quiet waters, hunting through the seasons, tending his garden, and peaceful walks in the woods. As the years passed, his pleasures shifted to the simple joys of auctions and flea markets shared with his wife Maureen, and to the quiet joy of watching birds visit his feeders through every season. There was always a book within reach and a game on television, and he remained a devoted, and unwavering fan of the Boston Red Sox, Dallas Cowboys, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Boston Bruins to the very end. In his own words, he had a "full, active, and interesting life - mostly enjoyable" and would do it all the same again if possible. So would we. Every laugh, every story, we would choose it all again. In lieu of flowers, Bob's wish was for support to be directed to the Red Sox Foundation. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, corner of Oak and Leroy Streets, Binghamton, Friday May 29, 2026 at 11 a.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. Major Boland entered Division service on September 16, 1954, serving 25 years, retiring in 1979. Major Boland was last assigned as the Troop Commander in Troop A. Richard E. Boland, Sr. July 30, 1931 – May 8, 2026 White Plains, New York / Victor, New York It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard “Dick” Boland, Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who peacefully departed on May 8, 2026, at the age of 94. Dick was born on July 30, 1931, in White Plains, New York, to Mildred and Edward Boland. He grew up alongside his brother Ken as the son of a police officer, a background that helped shape the values of integrity, discipline, and service that defined his life. He attended the University of Miami before proudly serving his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Following his military service, Dick embarked on a distinguished 25-year career with the New York State Police. Rising through the ranks, he was promoted to Major and, in 1975, became Commander of Troop A, headquartered in Batavia. He retired from the NYSP in 1979, leaving a legacy of leadership, strength, and dedication. He later brought those same qualities to Xerox Corporation, where he led the Corporate Security Department at Xerox Square in Rochester, New York. Above all, Dick was a devoted family man. He shared a lifelong love and partnership with his wife, Suzanne Sutton Boland. Their marriage was built on loyalty, love, and a deep commitment to family. Even after Suzanne’s passing seven years ago, Dick carried her memory with him every day and often spoke of their life together with enduring affection. He looked forward to their reunion. Dick cherished time spent with family and friends, especially hosting gatherings at their home in Fairport, NY and Shelter Island as well as spending Spring seasons on Sanibel Island, FL for 30+ years. Whether quiet moments for two or lively visits filled with children and grandchildren, these times reflected what mattered most to him—togetherness, love, and creating lasting memories. He and Sue were devoted New York Mets and New York Jets fans, faithfully supporting their teams through the years. He especially enjoyed watching Mets games on SNY and keeping up with highlights each morning. Dick was also known for embracing technology to stay close to his family. Whether through FaceTime, his iPhone, or his Kindle, he took great joy in keeping up with the lives and milestones of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The final decade of Dick’s life was especially meaningful, as he lived with his son Ed, daughter-in-law Alison, and their family. With the addition built onto their home, Dick and Sue remained at the center of daily family life—surrounded by love, laughter, and activity. From sports and bonfires to dinners and celebrations, it was a home filled with warmth. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Ed, Alison, Sutton, Payton, Libby, Major, Baxter and Steeler for creating such a loving environment in his later years. Dick is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Sohl and her husband Mark; his son Richard Boland and his wife Paula; and his son Ed Boland and his wife Alison. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Mark Sohl Jr. (Evan Sohl), Alex Sohl, and Hannah Sohl; Richard Boland III (Kelly Boland), Shea Boland, and Marjorie Boland; and Sutton, Payton, and Libby Boland. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to Archer Hanson Sohl, Declan James Boland, Stevie McKenna Boland, and Johnnie Jax Boland, whose lives and milestones brought him immense joy. Dick will be remembered as a kind, generous, and steady presence—someone who was always there with a listening ear, a helping hand, and quiet strength. After the passing of his beloved wife, he remained the heart of the family, guiding and supporting those he loved with patience, resilience, and unwavering devotion. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and all who were fortunate to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved. “A life of service, a heart full of love, and a legacy that will forever guide us.” A memorial service will be held on June 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Richard H. • Final Patrol: Sergeant-Station Commander Douglas L. Lippert (Ret.)

Douglas L. Lippert October 9, 1943 ~ February 13, 2024 Douglas Lippert Obituary At the time and date of God’s choosing, Douglas Lee Lippert passed peacefully from these earthly bounds into the heavenly realm of God where he met the face of Jesus on February 13, 2024. He was the son of Norman Henry and Beulah “Billie” (Brown) Lippert and arrived on October 9, 1943, in Batavia, N.Y. A graduate of the State University of New York at Albany, Douglas became a teacher of English at Oakfield-Alabama Central School, but shortly realized his true calling. He followed in his father’s footsteps (NYSP 1927-1952) and joined the New York State Police in February 1966. His assignments were in Remsen, Painted Post, Avon, Clarkson (Brockport), Oneida, and Morrisville. He was appointed station commander in 1976, and after twenty years of service, retired in 1987. He went on to serve as the Madison County Coordinator for STOP-DWI from 1987-2008. In 2009, he was appointed as the Oneida City Public Safety Commissioner and supervised both the police and fire departments. He was a faithful member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Oneida and later became a Certified Lay Pastor for the Presbytery of Utica. For 25 years he was a mentor, teacher, and guide to the Oneida Church Youth Group known as Jesus Street / The Connection. He also served as a member and former President of the Oneida Public Library. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 62 years, Alicia Mary (Schiffer). They were married June 6, 1965, in Holy Family R.C. Church, Hicksville, NY and were blessed by the arrivals of son Andrew John (Amy) and daughter Kristen Alicia (Philip) Martin. For such a decent, law-abiding man, he was a terrible cheater at ping pong and Monopoly and a shocking trash talker when on the basketball court. He played recreational volleyball like the fate of the world was at stake. Once he discovered his true sports passion -- tennis – later in life, he never needed any coaxing to jump onto the court and do battle with his racket. He was a devoted animal lover who spoiled his dogs on an unimaginable scale and always kept his bird feeders full in kindness to God’s many winged creatures and to the benefit of countless overfed squirrels. He had dreadful taste in vampire movies and loved an eclectic array of music, from Mozart to David Bowie to Joan Jett. He showed care by topping off the oil in your car or leaving vitamins next to your cereal bowl. He wrote beautiful, compassionate poems in honor of his parents when they passed - as he did for all significant family events. He was a special person who spent his life in service to others, and he will be deeply missed. His legacy lives on in the love he had for his children and grandchildren: Anna, Grace, Nathaniel, and Catherine Lippert; Caroline, Lucy, Emma, and Augustus (Gus) Martin. He is also survived by his brother Stephen (Hallie) Lippert of Huron OH; niece Deborah (Jeff) Gillen and their children, Stephanie, Brittany, and Jacob; his brother Gregory (Ellen) Lippert of Elmhurst Il, and their daughters, Emily (John Matthews) and their children Hannah and Asher, and daughter Margaret.
